Refuge

She was leaving home to a safer place
With her three year old boy who knows nothing
He was very young and still playing
They wanted to run away, live, some where safe
Her partner tried to kill them, not once or twice
No options but to flee, too scared to die
She couldn’t carry their bags, four in numbers
Too heavy for a mother and her boy

She asked for my help, I was scared to help
Never met her in the past, I’m new here
Busy at work, no time for a trouble
She told me her story, I was then convinced
They have to live, they are too young to die
As the train was leaving, she told in my ears
“There are few good folks in the world, like you”
I did nothing, but helped my neighbour

My Lord will give you peace, I wished them
No one can grant you peace but my Lord God
She just smiled, as she had no Lord in her life
I was not joking dear, you will soon know, I said.
For most of them, it’s funny to believe in God
My Lord will give them peace, truth, light and way
Life for the rest of their time in this world
They have to live, they are too young to die !!

Too Old to the World !!

He came to me for a cup of water
Too frail to fill the cup and drink from it,
His hands were shaking, He was truly old
He could not hold his cup to drink from it

I didn’t feel comfortable asking him,
how old he was? He was really old
I managed to ask him where he lives
Silence was his reply, may be not heard

Does he own a place, I am not quite sure
He then asked me to find a place that’s cheap
Just for him to sleep for a night that cold
He has got money to pay for that night

Too tired to travel back to his own place
Oh! Then he got some where to go, at last
I found some places on the internet
He called them one by one over the phone

No surprise, all too expensive for him
Kept trying different numbers, no luck
It’s too much for that night to pay, he said
Too much to pay for a bed and a sheet

Don’t worry, I will catch my train back home
Some one will wake me up, if I fall asleep
I am too old for this city, he said
Too old for every corner, can’t fit me in !!

Taxi Driver

I went to a shop to buy me a meal that night
Nobody was there but those two waitresses
I suppose they were not glad to see me there
Might be my colour, my race, they didn’t like there

I was not surprised to hear what one said to the other
Look, another ‘Taxi driver’ is here mate
No wonder ! Most of them are of my race
Folks of this land are not that “cheap workforce”

These Taxi drivers do anything here for a survival
Left their homeland for a brighter future here
Landed on this land of fortune and luck
Too ashamed to queue for that ‘dole’ these people enjoy!

But their fortune is trapped on our red tapes here
They did not drive these Taxies back in their land
They cannot work in their own profession here
Because they’re assumed to be ‘Non English’ in this land

Most of them went to school and are Graduates,
Doctors, Engineers, Lawyers, Cooks and so on
They are not refugees here, came on those boats
Are ‘Skilled Migrants’ flew in from this world around.

“Merry Christmas”

‘Merry Xmas’ they write on their greeting cards
Too hard to understand, what does that mean
I find it hard to search the meaning of ‘X’
What do they mean by this ‘Xmas’, not sure

Came to my mind those few lessons in Maths
Where I learned how to solve values of ‘X’
I have to go back to school, do some Maths
To get the value of that letter ‘X’

If you have an unknown number called ‘X’
Let’s place that ‘X’ here, come do some Maths
It is not that easy to solve this, dear
It could be anything, meaningless hear

Sadly learned they replaced Christ with that ‘ X’
They meant to say ‘Christmas’ but know no Christ
Someone here say Christ was a fiction star
For someone, He is not real, not a truth

Christmas is my Lord’s birthday for me dear
These children say birthday of ‘Santa Clause’
Christmas is a season for shopping deals !
Another reason to shop, drink and eat

Please do not condemn them, they never knew
No one has told them, that Christ was once here
And He is living amongst us all here
I am so glad and so lucky, know Him

They see the church in some people out here
They judge the church on some of their mistakes
I know the church was not always right here
I know the church is not always right dear.

Church is the living body of our Christ
Christ built His church for me and for you here
It was meant to be on love, not the wealth
Teaching us to love our foes not to kill them

It was to serve the world, not to be served
Walk on the thorn, not to be on the throne
That doesn’t mean Christ has no value to add
He is not just an X in our lives here

let’s say ‘Merry Christmas’ with Christ in it.
It has a meaning, love and care in it
Let’s teach our children who Christ is for us
Merry Christmas and say Merry Christmas!!!

“Lucky is that dog”

I could not resist looking at that dog
What a lucky dog in this city
Sitting on the front seat of that car
Luxury Mercedes convertible with his master

Roaming around the city, windows down
This city of the rich in all aspects
He is wearing a leather jacket !
Expensive one like his master’s

I just remembered someone said in the past
You should have born as those lucky dogs
Who get better care than those on the street
They get nutritious food than the poor

I assume he must be in a rich family
He must be a lucky dog indeed
There are people in this city, starving
There are children in this city, orphaned

But, see how lucky is that dog,
He is better in his position, has a home to live in
He has a master who takes care of him
He has food on his plate all the time !!

But those on our streets ?
They have no place to call home
They have no one to take care
They don’t get free food on the table, any time !!

They starve, they steal, they get bashed
Aren’t they better being human?
Are they here secondary to these pets?
I am confused to the end, so confused !!

Old is Gold

She may be over ninety, I am sure
She still can walk, I am amazed a lot
Except a walker frame for her support
Her walker has a lot of stuff on it

A bag full of torn, soiled dirty clothes
A basket full of junk (for me and you)
Feeble, frail but she was not on move
I saw her at that place, await someone

Supported by her walker frame to hold
Her foot that often changed, are truly sore
I can’t assume I bear that lengthy wait
Awaiting someone whom she loves a lot

She might be right to greet her love, her hope
Indeed for someone who can lend her a hand
A star who gets here might give her hope
One thing I’m sure, she has no home of her own

She has no one who cares around her own
Oh Lord, you send her someone for tonight
She needs your help and hand to live her own
You send her someone to take her home tonight

Black Mascara

I saw this young girl with a strange face on
Thinking she was wearing a make up on
Something funny these girls show on their face
It was not her make up, she was crying !!

Pouring tears washing her mascara down
Scribing her gorgeous face with ink that’s black
She’s crying, looking at her phone , weeping
A wild guess, she lost something, or someone

Crying from deep inside, when she has no hope
Someone hand a napkin, to cleanse that mess
It’s not that funny, she still is crying
It is not funny, for a girl that old.

She doesn’t look that fake in whole
It is a real cry that’s from her soul
So easy to get that right to judge
When someone break up and cry to die.

Briefcase full of Surprises

This Man on the Train, finally got a Seat.
Well Dressed in his Suits.
Has a Small Suitcase with him, not an ordinary one : A Real Leather one !
Opened his suitcase to take out something.
You know what he had in it ?
Any one could suspect that he carries his Official Gear in it, like Laptop, Files, Documents and so on..
But there were no such stuff :
Few things for my surprise !!
– A take away container of Spaghetti – half eaten, probably left over from last night !
– A packet of opened french fries (potato chips) !!
– A half Rotten Banana in Dark Brown colour !!
– A Zip Packet of Cereal !!
And
– Half a Bottle of Full Cream Milk !!
What we think about others are not always True, Right ??

School Boy

He was just about sixteen, I suppose
A young, smart boy like anyone else here
But he had a lot of metal on him
On his face, I counted fourteen, it’s true

Cannot guess how many more around  him
A number of coloured bands on his wrists
His hair were clearly coloured, gelled,  and spiked
A very smart modern boy of this time !

Was surprised to see him removing them
Detached his metals and bands around  him
He was in the train with me and a lot
People were watching him but he didn’t  care

Removed  them, packed in his bag, that school bag !
Sprayed, combed and set his spikes to a neat style
Rolled down the sleeves and buttoned them neatly
Neck tie around, perfumed and coat is on

Must be from a strict school, a Catholic one
Atleast they’re scared of the rules they have on
Now he’s a gentle, smart looking boy
Yes, now he’s a young, fresh and a neat School Boy !
